Visual storytelling on canvas, my work with oil and knives trace an unorthodox journey. Coming from the realm of comparative literature, I always had a greater interest in visualizing my emotions rather than putting them down in words. Portraiture grants the opportunity to paint the narratives that show on our faces and body. Knives and oil produce a rough juxtaposition and contrast, which I find ideal when sharing what is felt within our soul.

Human emotion is universal, in the sense that times of tension revel the most candid expression. My work often has this sentiment, although I make an effort to create balanced and simplified pieces. Viewers should be left to interpret my painting openly, interjecting their own experience, ideologies, and philosophy.

Narrative portraiture that brings the viewer into the world it inhabits is my way of bring a new format to the genre.
Expressing the identities and narratives of people with abstract color and texture has been my focus for more than a decade. I have earned awards by California’s De Young Museum, and have collectors across the globe from the United States, Europe, and South Korea.
